Google Reviews Have More Impact Than You Think

January 9, 2018
In 1998 Google was just another search engine. Today, Google is an action. Want to find a Lebanese restaurant? Google it. Need to know that airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? Google it. We no longer “search” for information on the internet – we Google it.
Google is the largest search engine in the world in 2011 according to the Guinness Book of World Records with 11.1 billion searches carried out in January in just the United States. Let that sink in for a minute. 11.1 billion searches in one month, in one country. According to 2017 Net Marketshare statistics, Google maintains a market share of almost 75%.
You might be wondering why I am telling you this. Currently Google is the default search engine on both Android and Apple mobile phones. When your potential customers are looking for a business in your category, there is a good chance they are “googling” it. And along with the business listings, they are seeing the Google Reviews on the Google Maps. Becoming actively involved in getting reviews on Google should be top of mind if you want your business to succeed and appear on Google Maps.
Google reviews have more of an effect on customer conversion than any other search engine optimization tool. Google Maps now shows overall review ratings right in the search results. Positive ratings and reviews show that your business is trustworthy and provides the type of experience that your customers are seeking.
If you haven’t claimed your business on Google, now is the time. And if your business has been claimed but you don’t have reviews or have a small number of reviews, start asking your customers to review you. Check the reviews often and address negative reviews in a professional manner. Every review you receive is important to your business. Good reviews let you know what you are doing well and negative reviews are opportunities to improve.
