Optimizing Your Google My Business Listing

February 8, 2021
It is surprising to see how many businesses haven’t claimed their Google listing, let alone updated it or optimized it.
Your Google listing is likely one of the first places where a consumer will engage with your business. Optimizing your listing is one of the fastest ways to convey the most important information.
There are many ways that a Google listing can help you advertise your business and best of all, it is totally free.
Your first step is to either create or claim your listing. If you are a new business, you would create your own. For older businesses, you can simply claim your listing. You may be wondering how you have a listing that you didn’t create. The answer is that any Google user can create a listing for a business. If you have a listing and it is claimed, but you aren’t the one who claimed it, you have to ask Google to give you ownership.
Now that you have ownership of your listing, this is the time to optimize it. Fill out all the information about your location, hours, website, products or services you offer, etc. Next you want to add some photos and videos (if you have them). Google has photo categories such as exterior, interior, at work, team, and identity. It is important to keep making updates to your listing as your business changes.
Creating posts about your business is another way to amplify your views on Google. Do you have an event coming up? Did someone in your company receive an award? Do you want to tell consumers more about the services you offer? Posts with pictures will capture the attention of the audience.
Another section that you want to pay close attention to is reviews. Are you thanking customers for leaving positive reviews? Are you addressing negative reviews in an appropriate manner? Whether the review is good or bad, consumers like to see that you are actively involved with the reviews they leave.
If all of this seems daunting to you or you simply don’t have the time to devote to maintaining your listing, call us at 1-888-703-5515. We can help.
